Sentinel

On my way to work I pass a sort of "reservoir" - more like a large pond really. They recently dredged it as it had filled up with silt. It's bordered by willow trees and usually attracts a large number of mallard, canada geese and black-headed gulls. But yesterday there was a more picturesque visitor: a grey heron. I could have take a pic if I had had my camera with me. It must have been a juvenile as he was more grey all over rather than having a white front. He saw me watching him and moved off in a very slow, deliberate manner. God bless the herons! I always love seeing them especially so close up.
